  • Whitby stays as Seven Perth prepares to celebrate

    Former Seven News Perth political reporter and fill-in presenter Reece Whitby will remain with Seven Perth despite being recruited by WA Premier Alan Carpenter to run for Labor pre-selection at the next state election.

    Whitby, who has been with Seven Perth for 17 years, is believed to be involved with preparations for the station's 50th birthday to be celebrated in 2009.

    TVW had better produce something good for their 50th year. Anything would be better than that crap that Boland did for the east coast 50th.

    The West said:
    "I'm out of the newsroom and no longer have any role in the newsroom. I'm a producer" said Whitby, explaining that he was instead working on a documentary to screen next year to celebrate 50 years of Channel 7.

    "I'm going through the archives and film vault and looking at all the old programs."

    According to the 'Can We Help?' section on page 30 of the West Australian newspaper of Monday January 5th, 2009, a TVW reunion will be held on October 16th, 2009.

    A committee has been formed consisting of Peter Scudds (former TVW Accounts), his wife Sue Scudds, Alf Binks (former TVW Company Accountant), John Young (of Young Talent Time fame), Jocelyn Treasure (widow of Brian Treasure), Bret Treasure (son of Brian Treasure) and Keith Bales (former TVW Accounts).

    The 2006 TV reunion at the Italian Club in Perth, WA, was organised by AMMPT (The Australian Museum of Motion Picture Technology). This time AMMPT is holding a 5 month exhibition at the Fremantle History Museum to commemorate the 50th anniversary (from September 2009 to January 2010).
