The Nine Network today announced the closure of the Sunday program from Sunday August 3, to be replaced by a weekly one hour bulletin on Sunday at 8:00am.

Nine's nightly late night news program, Nightline, will also wind up tonight, with the Network scheduling more newsbreaks through the evening to provide viewers with regular news updates.

Very interesting move by Nine. Sunday has been a dying dog for years, but I don't quite understand the axing of Nightline.

Still, I'm interested in what the pro-Nine crowd have to say about this. After all, according to them, Nine is supposedly much more committed to news than Seven and Ten

The new Sunday morning news bulletin should be interesting... let's hope they don't repeat their recent stupidity and air the Qantas version on Sunday mornings too :P

i dont think they will air the QANTAS news on Sunday. It will be interesting to see....and not a real surprise that Sunday has gone.

I would never have expected Seven News to be telling their viewers about these two shows being axed, but ATN just did exactly that!

Yes I thought that was rather interesting. I suppose it's a good excuse for Seven to have a dig at Nine.

It got a mention in the HSV bulletin as well (just as a voiceover). I'm surprised they didn't take the opportunity to promote Weekend Sunrise in some way.

Good point - usually they would do something like that.

    Cap from Sydney...

I bet that annoyed Nine (especially with the dots missing on the Nightline logo :P) :)

 Yes because Seven has had a nightly bulletin and Sunday current affairs show in recent years, hasn't it?

    Nine still has 60 Minutes.

And the quality of Nine News is far superior to Seven News, in at least the Eastern States.

They would be the first bulletin I would expect to carry this news. Why the hell wouldn't you tell your viewers your competitor has thrown their news reputation down the toilet?

    *snigger*

The Sunday program has gone down the toilet, but I will miss Nightline, which is the only time I watch NNN reguarly. I guess I'll go to Seven Late News.
