  • FOXTEL joins Seven and Ten in AFL deal

    February 8 2007 1:25pm (UTC+8)  -  Article by cartman

Pay television provider FOXTEL today announced it has reached a $315.5 million dollar agreement with current AFL rights holders the Seven and Ten networks to televise 4 live games per round for the next 5 years.

Seven and Ten will both televise 2 matches per round each with Seven set to broadcast one match on Friday night and one Sunday afternoon match while Network Ten will screen 2 games every Saturday in an afternoon/evening double-header.

In addition to the 4 live games to be broadcast each round by FOXTEL, AFL fans in the NRL dominant markets of New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT are set to benefit from the agreement with Seven's Friday night games to be broadcast live on FOXTEL's Main Event channel in those markets. Friday night games were previously broadcast delayed on free-to-air in those states due to reduced ratings.

FOXTEL's exclusive 4 games per round will be shown on FOX Sports 1 following the axing of the FOX Footy Channel in September last year at the end of the previous AFL rights agreement between the Nine and Ten networks and FOXTEL.
