  • Kevin Crease to retire after being diagnosed with cancer

    March 18 2007 1:27pm (UTC+8)  -  Article by Pun

Kevin Crease has revealed that he's fighting cancer, and that he wont be returning to present the news on NWS9 (Channel Nine Adelaide). Crease took leave from his regular weeknight presenting in February, with his colleague Rob Kelvin saying he was 'unwell'.

"The simple truth of the matter is that I have cancer and it's serious," Crease said.

Kevin Crease was the first person to appear on television in South Australia in 1959. In April 1987 he became a news presenter for N9N Adelaide with his college Rob Kelvin, who have been presenting as a duo for two decades.

Channel Nine Adelaide has been inundated with calls since departure from the news desk in February.

News Director Tony Agars said that the staff at Nine Adelaide are still shocked at the situation.

"Kevin is a very practical person," he said.

"Through all of this he has been in control, kept a level head and, more importantly, a great sense of humour.

"To say we miss him is an understatement.

"But Creasy knows he has the support of every single person at this station.

"He's hugely respected and a big part of the place."
