  • Mercedes sues Seven and Today Tonight

    April 2 2007 6:36pm (UTC+8)  -  Article by Ben

Schapelle Corby's sister, Mercedes, is suing Channel Seven, Today Tonight, east-coast TT presenter Anna Coren and TT reporter Bryan Seymour for defamation over allegations made by former family friend Jodie Power on the program earlier this year.

Mercedes Corby claims the allegations made by Ms Power were "hurtful" and "untrue"

In February this year Ms Power spoke exclusively with Today Tonight with claims that convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby had been involved in drugs prior to her arrest in Bali in October 2004 for smuggling 4.1kg of marijuana into Indonesia.

While Today Tonight is presented weeknights in three locations across the country, Corby has not threatened legal action against Adelaide presenter Leigh McClusky and Perth presenter Monika Kos.

The NSW Supreme Court will hear the case next month.

Well sue the producers who wrote the script. Not the person who's just paid to read it.

Well that's not really how it works...Anna and the reporter are the ones who defamed her. Obviously the on-air presenters/reporters would probably have a clause in their contracts specifying that if any defamation action was taken against them then the network would pay.

    I'd hope so. :)

It is not Anna's or Bryan's fault that they did the things that they did. They didn't choose. Ok, the Corbys should sue TT and the person who actually chose to put that story on TT.
