Community groups and industry professionals are outraged that Network Ten's 'Big Brother' knew a contestant had miscarried, but decided to continue with a task to have housemates look after toy babies and keep them "alive".
Kate Gladman refused to continue on with the task, and threatened to leave the reality show. The task has since been scrapped and replaced.
Kate's mother, Annette Gladman, has said the producers knew what would happen, and have made a cheap grab from ratings.
"I think they have got a moronic following and have milked it for all it's worth.
"I know that they have done that deliberately."
Endemol Southern Star, the producers of Big Brother, have released a statement saying that "Kate told the producers that she had dealt with it fully, but obviously she had not,"
The reality show has been watered down this year, axing the uncut show after pressure from the Government and family groups, and heavily censoring the online video feeds.
As of yet, Communications Minister Senator Helen Coonan has not received any complaints about the new series.
