  • Eddie McGuire bones himself

    May 18 2007 9:01am (UTC+8)  -  Article by Kevin

After just 17 months in the top position, the Nine Network has announced that Eddie McGuire will step down as CEO from June 30 to spend more time on air. McGuire said he would take some time off before returning to television however.

The statement said McGuire will have an increased presence on air, and will focus on "the provision of creative and programming services" to the Nine Network.

This announcement follows a tough couple of years for Nine. Ratings have dropped in most areas for the network, which according to Ian Law (CEO of PBL Media) is due to McGuire's "on-air absence".

"It has become clear over the past 12 months that Mr McGuire's absence from on air as a key host has impacted on the ratings of the network", Mr Law said in the statement.

There are a lot of Television executive's in the world, but very few stars.

I can't believe the other networks have made such a big deal about this. I don't like Eddie either, but surely they could have resisted? Ten had to call him the "embattled CEO".

A story on Nine's bulletins would have made sense, but not the others.
