UPDATED | The Seven Network's popular breakfast program, Sunrise, has announced plans to begin including local news segments into the show from Monday, May 28th. "Sunrise viewers told us they want to know what's happening in their own backyards" said Adam Boland, Executive Producer of Sunrise.
"Sunrise has newsrooms in every single major city. These local updates will ensure Sunrise has the most comprehensive and most relevant news service in Australia between 6am and 9am."
The move follows speculation that rival morning show 'Today' is also planning to begin local news updates from Monday to coincide with the appointment of new host Lisa Wilkinson.
At this stage it's understood that some of Nine's capital city stations, and all WIN Television regional markets, will pre-record their updates the previous evening. It's not known whether any of Seven's markets will opt to pre-record their local news updates for Sunrise.
UPDATE: Natalie Barr confirmed this morning (24 May 2007) on Sunrise that she will read local news for each capital city at 6am, 7am and 8am.
UPDATE 25/05/2007: It has been revealed that overnight crews will send their stories to Brekky Central before Nat pre-records a special news bulletin for each state. Sunrise will update the local content throughout the morning for the updates at 6am, 7am and 8am.
