Seven Network news and current affairs boss Peter Meakin has been found guilty of dangerous driving and sentenced to at least 14 months weekend detention after he fled from a police breath testing unit on Sydney's Northern Beaches, nearly hitting a police officer.
Meakin has also been found guilty of drink driving and has had his license suspended for 8 years.
The two police officers were forced to evade Meakin's speeding four wheel drive at North Narrabeen, on October 4 last year.
Defence barrister Phillip Boulten SC asked Magistrate Jane Colver to consider sparing Meakin a jail term, saying he'd be unlikely to reoffend and that he hasn't drank alcohol since the incident.
"He has sworn off alcohol altogether," Mr Boulten said.
"He has not had a single drink of alcohol since the night of the offence."
Mr Boulten urged the Magistrate to impose a community service order instead of a jail term, saying Meakin would "not do easy" in prison, and that he wouldn't be able to manage his job from prison.
Seven has defended Mr Meakin, stating that his job with the Seven Network is secure.
Meakin has already lodged an appeal against the sentence.

wtf
Obviously not. I suspect it will be the end of his career unless he can find a way out of it.
