  • Shock jock to take Extra chair

    June 22 2007 1:35pm (UTC+8)  -  Article by Kevin

Triple M shock jock Ian Skippen is moving to television - if only for 5 days. Skippen has been announced as one of the many fill in hosts for the very pregnant Jillian Whiting on Channel Nine Queensland's afternoon program, Extra.

Whiting will present her final episode of Extra tonight.

Former ABC News newsreader Lisa Backhouse is expected to take over Whiting's presenting role on National Nine News.

Skippen will be seen on air for the week beginning June 25.

Nova 106.9 host Emily Jade O’Keefe has an Extra job next week. She will be the second a series of guest hosts for the program while Jillian Whiting is on maternity leave.

O’Keefe has worked for QTQ9 before, hosting kids program Download in 2002.

“I was thrilled when Jillian asked me to host for a week. She has been wonderful, taking me under her wing and shown me the ropes,” she told The Courier Mail.

The news that O'Keefe is to take the chair comes as the future for the long running show hangs in the balance. More blood was let at the Mount Coot-tha studios yesterday with the boning of five behind-the-scenes staff, including a floor manager and a graphic designer.

Francis Whiting, from The Courier Mail, has been announced as guest host number three replacing Jillian. At the same time, serious questions are been raised about Jillian's future with the network, with many saying she won't return.
