  • Martin approached for a new Nine News program

    July 25 2007 10:52pm (UTC+8)  -  Article by Pun

Channel Nine has asked network legend Ray Martin to host a early news show, in a hope to restore the news rating decline. The program would be screened at 5pm, replacing the current 4.30 news hosted by Kelly Connolly.

Nine knows how important lead-ins are for their main 6pm bulletin; Seven has been successful with the strong lead-in from game show Deal or No Deal, fronted by Andrew O'Keefe.

Why bother having news at 5pm? By the time the bulletin is finished, there's only 30 minutes before another news bulletin airs. What's the point?

Both Seven and Nine's 4:30pm news aren't worth having in my opinion - they're too close to the 6pm bulletin as it is :dontknow:

Plus you have Ten's news at 5pm as well :happydance:

Exactly. I wouldn't mind if Seven or Nine decided to move their 6pm bulletins to 5pm to compete with Ten News, but that's not going to happen.

Having 2 bulletins starting within an hour of each other is just silly in my opinion, hardly worth the effort.

Well what's on Nine at 5pm currently? Bargain Hunt or something? Surely this would be a better option than showing that rubbish. It would increase people's exposure to N9N and might get some people switching over to Nine at 6pm.

Poor Kellie. She just can't take a trick. Replaces Georgie Gardner as TODAY newsreader when she left for maternity leave, then replaced Jessica Rowe when she left. Kellie then gets dumped when 9 sign Lisa Wilkinson and Allison Langdon keeps the TODAY newreader position.

It might be time for Kellie to go Dancing across to 7.

Wonder if we would get this on Nine Brisbane? In which case, we'd technically have 2 hours of News style programming with our local "Extra" program at 5.30pm...
