In what's being called a "boon" for viewers, Network Ten CEO Grant Blackley and FOXTEL CEO Kim Williams have announced that Network Ten will be retransmitted on FOXTEL Digital from September.
Consumers will be able to view Ten's digital signal seamlessly through the FOXTEL platform and access Ten's schedule and program details via FOXTEL's electronic program guide (EPG).
However, Ten's signal will be only be available to FOXTEL satellite subscribers in Brisbane, Melbourne and Geelong, Sydney and the NSW central coast. Cable subscribers will have access to Ten Digital in Adelaide, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. Ten's High Definition (HD) service will also be retransmitted via cable when FOXTEL launches its own HD offering planned for 2008.
Currently only FOXTEL cable subscribers receive an analogue-only retransmission of Ten.
FOXTEL is Australia's leading subscription television provider. It commenced distributing its services on cable with 20 channels in 1995, expanding to 31 channels and satellite distribution in 1999 and increased its offering to 45 channels in 2002 following the completion of the FOXTEL-Optus Content Supply Agreement.
More than 70% of Australian's have access to FOXTEL, with more than 1.325 million homes currently connected to the FOXTEL service directly or by receipt of services provided on a wholesale basis to other providers such as Optus TV.
Prior to today's announcement, FOXTEL only had cable and satellite digital retransmission agreements with the ABC, SBS and the Nine Network.
