Fairfax publication 'The Age' has been named the Pacific region's major newspaper of the year tonight, beating rival Melbourne newspaper 'Herald Sun', which had won the award for the past 2 years.
Judges said that The Age had "excelled in content, design, production and campaign journalism". Other Australian newspapers in the same category were The Sydney Morning Herald and The Sunday Mail.
The Sunshine Coast Daily was also a winner, winning in the category Dailies and Sundays with a circulation of 15,000 - 50,000, and online newspaper of the year going to The Australian.
