  • Leigh says farewell to Today Tonight

    August 17 2007 5:33pm (UTC+8)  -  Article by Pun

For 11 years, Today Tonight Adelaide has been fronted by Leigh McClusky- the only remaining original presenter of the program across the nation, and with 250 consecutive weekly wins, Leigh left the program tonight on a high.

Today Tonight first screened in South Australia in 1995, with lackluster ratings, on occasion trailing Channel Nine's 'A Current Affair' by almost 100,000 viewers. As years passed, the show gained viewers and in 2001 began it's winning streak against ACA for 4 consecutive years.

"Thank you for having me in your lounge room and lives and for putting up with me... It's been a pleasure" Leigh said, as she was joined by her work colleagues and family for the last 15 minutes of the show, as they looked back at some favourite, and emotional moments.

Rosanna Mangiarelli will present the program from Monday night.

Lucky South Australians get Rosanna Mangiarelli. In the east we get the inane, smarmy and disconnected Anna Coren. My kingdom to get Naomi back. The show was less stupid then and the video, audio and story quality was so much better when it was made in Melbourne. The last week with Samantha Armytage has been a real treat. Obviously Anna writes those ridiculous riddle like segues because Samantha does not have them

I honestly don't think being presented from Melbourne has anything to do with it - I can't say I watch too often but the reporters and the stories seem exactly the same (that is to say, McShite), although the new set is quite flashy.

When you watch 7News Melbourne then TT starts, the picture and audio quality drop is staggering! TT has its moments (QANTAS investigation and anything from Helen Wellings) but some of the filler stuff for a while there was pretty awfull, I am a journalism student so I enjoy a laugh but I also have noticed that after Naomi left the quality fell. Anna's ridiculous segues do not help. They are so inane. And people say they thought she would bring integrity...well after ten years as host people will have long forgotten she did anything else, like they did with naomi who was a 7news journo just like Anna. And christ Anna is an awfull interviewer...she is so agressive and her question stupid...like to John Howard: "Do you think Australia is safer now muhammed haneef is gone?" she asked without a hint of sarcasm.
