WIN Television have today announced the appointment of two new employees to fill key roles at the network - Mhairi Wheater to the newly created position of Promotions Manager in Perth, and Rod Hockey to the position of WIN Network General Manager.

    Mhairi Wheater
In what's being called an "exciting new role" Mhairi (pronounced Vari) will take responsibility for the management and development of sponsorships, media advertising, and promotional strategies for WIN Television Western Australia and Channel Nine Perth.

Mhairi has spent most of her life in Perth. Educated at Penrhos College, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Marketing and Media from Murdoch University, she has over eight years of marketing experience with six years of this time in management positions.

WIN CEO George Papadopoulos said Mhairi's extensive career in the field of business branding will be vital in the transformation of Nine Perth and WIN WA.

"Her business acumen will play a key role in the company's branding and development across Western Australia - especially for our clients and their customers," he said.

Mhairi recognises this substantial career opportunity which makes her a part of a strategically placed media company as the WIN Corporation continues to expand and develop.

"I look forward to starting my new position and making a positive impact on ratings and WA's perception of Channel Nine/WIN" she said. "It's a challenge I'm very much looking forward to".

    Rod Hockey
New WIN Network General Manager Rod Hockey will work closely with both Bruce Gordon and Andrew Gordon and George Papadopoulos on the overall management and responsibility for the operational and strategic direction of the WIN Network.

With transmission spanning the largest geographical area in the world, the WIN Network reaches more than 8.5 million viewers across six Australian states and the nation's capital through its wholly owned and operated television stations.

WIN Chairman Andrew Gordon said he's looking forward to working closely with Hockey.

"This is a very exciting time for The WIN Network, with the recent purchase of STW-9 Perth and NSW-9 Adelaide our growth has been extraordinary. I've known and worked with Rod for many years, his experience and knowledge of The WIN Network will be invaluable as we move ahead," he said.

WIN Corporation Deputy Chairman, Bruce Gordon said the position of Network General Manager is a well deserved progression for Rod. "I look forward to welcoming Rod back to Wollongong and the opportunity of continuing to work closely with him over the coming years as the Network continues to develop and expand into exciting new arenas."

Hockey's career began with WIN Television Wollongong as a tape operator in 1985. Following this Hockey held a variety of positions to further his skills including Promo Producer, Trainee Manager, Program Supervisor and Network Program Manager and in December 1995 was appointed WIN Queensland General Manager.

Papadopoulos said "I've worked closely with Rod now for over eight years and in this time have witnessed his dedication and loyalty to the WIN Group".

"The WIN Network is constantly growing, with Rod's appointment we are further adding to the strength, the efficiency and the effectiveness of this extremely successful business."

In accepting the position, Hockey said "This is an exciting opportunity for me and I am thrilled to be leading Australia's most progressive and diverse television network, working with Andrew, Bruce, George and the impressive team of WIN Executives across the country to further enhance our performance and commitment to our viewers across Australian. I can't wait to get started."

"The WIN Network is well positioned to play an innovative role in the development of local content. We produce superb WIN News bulletins each weeknight from 19 different regional centres across the country plus a 7-day a week bulletin in Tasmania. I'm looking forward to building on this solid foundation, developing other opportunities to deliver our viewers access to a broad array of content and services covering news, local productions, sports, and entertainment", Hockey said.
