This is a big loss for Seven if she doesn't come back. I think Seven's well known reporting team is another reason why they are so successful against N9N.

6PR rumour: Alison Fan for Lord Mayor

AMID reports that Channel 7 reporter Alison Fan has quit her job, 6PR breakfast announcer Tony McManus suggested Fan is going to run for Lord Mayor.

McManus said Fan had quit Seven after a stoush with news director Shaun Menegola over the station's trial coverage of Jake Dylan Becker who was found not guilty on tuesday of the manslaughter of Skye Barkwith of Greenwood.

McManus told 6PR listeners this morning that a meeting between Fan and Seven managing director Chris Wharton was due to be held to discuss the ruckus.

In a throwaway line at the end of his report McManus suggested there were rumours that Fan would throw her hat in the ring to run for the job of Lord Mayor.

Nominations for candidates to run in the mayoral elections close at 4pm today.

I wonder what the argument over the trial coverage was about.

Was it yesterday or the day before Geoff Parry did a report on the outcome?

If there's anything in that, then Alison is serious about her departure.

She would be great at the ABC, but STW should be doing everything it can to try and snatch her now. Imagine the gloating rights they would have. :helpsmilie:

I think Alison could do less damage to her career by joining Channel 31. :D

TVW will probably line the path with gold to get her back home.

She would be good at STW with court/crime reporter Grant Taylor leaving for the cheif crime reporter at the west.

STW should do whatever they can to get her. I doubt she would go there though, and she would have a much bigger profile at the ABC than at STW.

Fan at the ABC???? how could she keep up her lavish lifestyle on a measly ABC salary, she needs a commercial. Perhaps she would be a good presenter on STW NNN? but they need a male presenter not a overpaid journo like Fan.

Liked this comment on the PerthNow site:

Channel 7 - what are you DOING?! What a perfect opportunity - she's left of her own desire so you don't have to SACK the old, self justifying fossil. Maybe those other two archive-ready newsreaders over there (over based Suzannah Carr and phlegm-throated Rick Ardon) can also take the hint and move on after two decades doing the same thing ... They have all passed their prime, demographic attraction and relevance. But - who in their right mind would employ them after so long doing the same thing for the same employer?? Maybe they could become seat warmers in Mr Stokes' garden ... Romac of Adelaide 2:52pm today

They made reference to, and showed an interview done by Alison Fan in tonight's TT.

Any news on when she'll be back at Seven, or if she has told them to shove off for good?
