    Chris Mainwaring dead at 41
UPDATED 5/10/2007 | Former West Coast Eagles premiership player and Channel Seven Perth's weekend sports presenter Chris Mainwaring died this morning after collapsing at home, despite desperate efforts by paramedics to save his life.

Mainwaring was taken from his home in the coastal suburbs of Perth, to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, but later died. Police and ambulance officers were called to his Haining Way home at 11.30pm last night with complaints from neighbours he was yelling in the street.

Mainwaring was calm when emergency services arrived, and he refused treatment from ambulance officers.

At 12.30am Ambulance officers were called again to his home and found him unconscious. After arriving in hospital shortly after, he was pronounced dead.

Police are searching his Cottesloe home this morning. The incident is being considered a sudden death. Police say there are no suspicious circumstances related to his death.

Mainwaring has presented Weekend sports on TVW7 since he retired from the AFL in 1999 due to a debilitating knee injury, also reading the sports headlines on radio station MIX 94.5 during mornings.

Channel Seven Perth released a statement at midday, saying the network had suffered a tragic loss.

"Mainy was part of the heart and soul of Channel Seven Perth, and we will all miss him very, very dearly," managing director of Seven Perth Chris Wharton said.

"Our thoughts must go to Chris' family, especially Rani and the children for their sad loss."

"Chris was a much loved employee of Channel 7, a mate, a colleague and a top shelf professional."

He leaves behind his wife, Rani and two children.

UPDATE 1/10/2007 | Seven News in Perth tonight aired some amazing memories of Chris Mainwaring's extraordinary career.

You can watch tonight's coverage of his death and see the reaction of his colleagues Susannah Carr and Basil Zempilas in the comments section of this article.

UPDATE 5/10/2007 | Seven will be covering the funeral service for Chris Mainwaring live on Monday October 8 2007 from 11am. The broadcast will be simulcast on radio station 6PR.

Apparently first revealed by Nine News. I wonder why Seven didn't get this exclusive.

STW got the toxicology report - TVW obviously didn't. The report wasn't "released" so STW somehow got a hold of it. Now that they have revealed the details, I guarantee we will see a report on TVW News tomorrow night.

Has the toxicology report that STW manage to receive been confirmed as the real deal yet? If so, I haven't heard about it. I am sure that TVW will air a report once the accuracy of the report has been confirmed.

You'll all start on me for this, but you anti-TVW lot need to have some respect for the fact that Chris was their (the people at TVW) friend which some of them worked with for over 15 years. I do not expect them, and neither should any of you, to speculate on why he died until a confirmed report has been released. Other media outlets can speculate if they wish, because they didn't work with him.

Yes, TVW's job is to report news, but they are people too, and as Chris was their friend and colleague I don't expect to hear anything from them about the cause of his death until it has been confirmed.
