Viewers of Channel Nine Perth will see a new look news from 6pm tonight when Greg Pearce, one of Western Australia's best known and respected news presenters, joins Dixie Marshall at the news desk.
The new look National Nine News team of Greg and Dixie will present Perth's locally produced and presented half hour bulletin each weeknight.
In addition to a change of news presenter, viewers will also see changes to the news look and a renewed focus on delivering news that is driven by Perth and Western Australia issues.
With over 30 years news experience behind him, Greg is no stranger to Perth viewers and returns to the Nine News desk to spearhead the new look National Nine News.
In commenting on his new role, Greg said, "It's refreshing to be at Channel Nine and see the renewed commitment they have to a first class news product. Spending a couple of years away from television has given me a chance to recharge the batteries and I'm ready for this new opportunity to work in a news room that has developed a reputation for breaking news stories. I'm also thrilled to be working with Dixie. I've always admired and respected her."
As she welcomed Greg to the team, Dixie said, "I've been a fan and a friend of Greg's throughout my career…I feel privileged to be sharing the news desk with him. We're both looking forward to delivering a comprehensive half hour bulletin that is focused on the issues and stories that effect the West."
Joining Greg Pearce and Dixie Marshall on the desk each weeknight will be Sports Director Michael Thomson and Weather Presenter Natalia Cooper. Michael will deliver a full wrap of local, national and international sport while Natalia will provide a comprehensive WA weather report.
Adding to the changes is a new look National Nine News weekend edition presented by the young and enthusiastic Matt Tinney and Sharlyn Sarac. No strangers to reporting the news, the duo will take the helm together for the first time on Saturday, March 1.
WIN Corporation's Managing Director, David Butorac said: "The changes we are making are to reinforce our commitment to investing in the growth of local news for Perth and Western Australia. Dixie Marshall is renowned as one of Western Australia's leading investigative journalists. She is a news breaker. To have a newsman of the calibre of Greg Pearce join Dixie to present National Nine News will provide viewers with two people who know news and know Perth and WA. They will be a formidable team."
"We are also committed to ensuring we provide opportunities for young journalists to progress through our company so we are proud to be able to have Matt and Sharlyn presenting the weekend bulletin," Butorac said.
"This is just the start of our plans and viewers should keep watching because we will have further announcements to enhance our news commitment to the West in the coming months."
Perth's National Nine News is produced at the studios of Channel 9 Perth and broadcast across Western Australia with over a 100 strong team of locally based journalists, cameramen and producers throughout the state.
Commencing tonight, viewers will also have the opportunity to catch a replay of the 6pm news bulletin at midnight each night.
